About the role


As a Graduate Data Engineer, you will gain experience in developing analytic models within the in-house data management platform. You will learn to build and maintain data pipelines, productionize models, data deployment practices, and implementing automated workflows. You will join a dynamic engineering team, contributing to the enhancement of the existing Investments Data Management platform and the development of a new Investments reporting platform. Both platforms utilize the latest Microsoft Azure technology stack, which empowers Cbus to become a more agile, data-driven, and insights-led organization.


In this role, you will learn to transform and manage data across the fund's data platform assets. You will develop analytic models using SQL and/or Python, work with Azure function API frameworks, and create notebooks and workflows in Azure Synapse. Additionally, you will collaborate with internal teams and external technology suppliers to deliver robust and well-governed data solutions. This role is essential in supporting Cbus's mission to enhance its ability to serve its members and stakeholders effectively.

Key Accountabilities

  • Absorb data into operational and reporting cloud platforms from various sources including batch interfaces, ad-hoc files, APIs, and SFTP feeds.
  • Develop automated business workflows and implement financial models within data management platforms.
  • Build Data Quality jobs to profile, validate, cleanse, and conform data from source systems.
  • Implement mechanisms to monitor and audit data flows and establish alerts for errors and anomalies.
  • Deploy and support scalable data pipelines using a DevOps approach, including automated testing, CICD, scheduling, and orchestration.


Who we’re looking for


We are looking for a Graduate to join the fund on a full-time permanent basis. This position is located in Melbourne CBD and offers a hybrid working environment.


We welcome graduates you have completed a degree in IT, Software Engineering, Data Engineering or related field in 2023 or 2024 at an Australian Tertiary Institution.


The ideal candidate will also have:

  • An interest in financial services, investments and superannuation
  • Coursework experience with Python, SQL databases and REST API
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

About The Role

Reporting to the Data Engineer Leader, the Senior Data Engineer will work closely with the Data Product team to support, design, build and deploy data solutions to enable effective and efficient value realisation from EnergyAustralia’s data.   • Exceptional and eloquent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and business audiences, including C-level executives.
  • Hands-on experience with ML and AI implementation – building, integrating, and deploying solutions that provide tangible business value.
  • Experience applying AI solutions to business problems, including recent exposure to LLMs and generative AI.
  • A track record of successfully deploying low-latency inference pipelines in production environments.

The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.

About the Victorian School Building Authority

The Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) is part of the Department of Education. Established in 2016, it oversees Victoria's largest school building program since the state introduced free public education in the 1870s.

The VSBA upgrades and expands existing schools and plans, designs and builds new schools to meet enrolment demand. We also support schools to maintain their buildings and grounds by offering expert advice and coordinating maintenance programs and grants.

With Victoria recently introducing two years of funded kindergarten, the VSBA is also working with the early childhood sector on a massive kindergarten construction program.

About the Division

The Corporate Division provides corporate support to all VSBA teams and fulfills an important assurance and oversight role. They guide VSBA to achieve strategic objectives and ensure decision-making is transparent and accountable.

The division also coordinates communication and consultation with local communities about their school building projects. They develop graphic design and video content, manage our social media channels, lead organisational customer service reform, distribute our e-newsletters and organise ministerial and other events for our projects. The Division also leads the organisational customer service reform and uplift program.

About the Role

This is a Fixed Term Role till 30/06/2027.

Reporting to the Data Insight Team Leader in Business Systems, the Senior Data Advisor - Business Analyst leads the provision of comprehensive support for data utilisation and reporting products. As a dedicated team member, the Senior Data Advisor provides support by identifying and addressing evolving data and evidence. Senior Data advisor advocates for evidence-based outcomes and needs to drive effectiveness and strategic decision-making.

This role collaborates closely with the various stakeholders to gather and analyse various reporting needs by identifying the data required. Key responsibilities include independent analysis, business understanding, and strong communication skills.

Specifically, the role involves:

  • Acting as main contact for understanding and gathering all reporting needs from various stakeholders.
  • Following up with the stakeholders on their reporting queries and the priorities by collaborating and sharing information effectively
  • Providing the stakeholders with the report development updates on a regular basis.
  • Providing support and assistance to Data Insight team on the report requirements and any clarifications during the reporting implementations.
  • Understanding of various VSBA systems such as Oracle Primavera Cloud, Oracle Aconex, Oracle ERP, AIMS (IBM Maximo) etc and the related business processes.
  • Contributing to the process improvements by developing the data dictionaries for Data Insight team, including updating, maintaining the knowledge base documents and fosters innovation in others.
  • Develop fit for purpose reporting, dashboards and visualisations ((Power BI, SSRS) to support and enable data driven decision making across VSBA
  • Analyse data using standard tools (e.g. SQL server, Access, Excel, SSRS, Power BI, Oracle and Visual Studio)
  • Monitors client and stakeholder satisfaction closely.
  • Accommodates and works well with the different working styles of others, including shows consideration, concern, and respect for other feelings and ideas.
  • Conduct End to End testing and troubleshooting through the design and development of QA documentation like Test Cases and Test scenarios from business and functional requirements
  • Implements specific changes in work methods to enhance outcomes, quality, and timeliness of service.
  • Takes prompt responsibility for resolving any issues with the stakeholders without becoming defensive.
  • Fulfilling other duties as assigned.

  • A strong background in stakeholder management, including the ability to effectively engage, influence, and communicate with both internal and external stakeholders to understand and meet their needs.
  • Proven expertise in reporting requirements gathering, ensuring the accurate collection and documentation of business needs to inform data solutions and reporting frameworks.
  • Proficiency in documentation practices, including creating clear, concise technical and functional documentation for both business and technical teams.
  • Experience in testing processes, ensuring data integrity and accuracy in reports, dashboards, and other BI solutions by conducting thorough testing and validation.
  • A solid understanding of data dictionaries and how to maintain and update them to ensure consistency and standardisation of data across systems.
  • Strong skills in dashboard reporting, utilising BI tools to create insightful, visually appealing, and actionable reports for decision-makers.
  • Competence in data analysis and management practices, ensuring data is effectively analysed, interpreted, and managed to support business objectives and operational efficiency.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to translate complex data insights into clear, actionable information for non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Highly preferred: experience working as a Business Analyst with strong Business Intelligence knowledge, particularly in data modelling platforms within large organisations, preferably in a government department.
  • Experience in analysing data using standard tools (SQL Server, Oracle, SSIS, SSRS, Power BI, Data Warehouse Cubes, MS Access and MS Excel)
  • Experience and comfort level in working with various levels of stakeholders
  • Adequate knowledge of the requirements gathering and documenting complex business processes across the organisation.
  • Contemporary knowledge of information management technologies and their application within a business context
  • Experience in analysing non- technical business requirements and interpret business needs into technical requirements.
  • Experience in quality assurance and unit testing.
  • Experience with Oracle platforms such as Oracle ERP, Oracle Aconex, Oracle Primavera Cloud, and IBM Maximo is highly desirable.
