Director of Strategy and Planning - Cairns

About you:

You have extensive experience in leading the development, implementation, monitoring, and review of organisational, service planning and business improvement processes, to drive continuous improvement and innovation and ensure the organisation's objectives are delivered. You possess highly developed ability to research, critically analyse, and interpret complex problems and data, to develop and negotiate creative solutions and successful outcomes within an uncertain and rapidly changing, complex health service environment and demonstrated high-level knowledge of, and experience in, providing high-level advice and support to senior executive management regarding strategic and operational risks, issues impacting on health services, legislation and government policy and priorities.

Your opportunity: 

This position reports to the Executive Director of Strategy, Planning, and Infrastructure and provides strategic leadership, strategic direction, and coordination for planning initiatives across Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service, to meet the current and future health care needs of our community.

The Director of Strategy and Planning is responsible for the delivery and oversight of strategic, operational, and health service planning for Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service and will liaise directly with the Board, Executive and senior clinicians to ensure health service wide planning meets statutory and service-related requirements.

Your role: 

  • Develop strategies to plan and implement transformative and optimal initiatives to shape policy and funding developments that have the potential to support CHHHS' strategic direction and ambitions.
  • Provide timely and strategic advice to the Executive Director of Strategy, Planning, and Infrastructure, Chief Executive and Executive team on planning, business intelligence, and analytics, including strategies to ensure the successful planning, delivery and sustainability of services and programs.
  • Lead and manage the Strategy and Planning Team, leadership in the design, analysis, implementation, and continuous improvement of the integrated planning, strategy management, and strategy communications frameworks and systems for the organisation.
  • Lead and manage the process of horizon scanning to enhance organisational strategic intelligence including the systematic gathering, analysing, and dispensing of information. This includes state, national, and international trends, emerging issues and developments in policy and health service planning practice (opportunities and technology) and their potential integration into Queensland's health services.
  • Lead and manage the coordination of the integrated planning cycle, operational planning, and periodic reviews of the organisational performance and capabilities, including using key performance measures, statistical reporting, and analysis of those measures.
