The Role

We are currently looking for a lawyer with 8-10 years' experience in complex corporate commercial and technology work to join our IPTech Practice Group in Melbourne.

What we're looking for

  • 8-10 years' experience in complex corporate commercial and technology work, preferably working within a similar large firm environment with a focus on larger, transactional deals;
  • strong experience in drafting technology contracts and agreements, and providing general advice on the supply and procurement of goods or services in the technology sector. Exposure to
  • telecommunications regulations, media and broadcasting would be desirable;
  • relevant experience in a top tier or leading international firm preferred;
  • a strong academic background;
  • a strong client service orientation;
  • strong technical, drafting and commercial skills;
  • business development aptitude, interest, and experience;
  • excellent analytical, communication, and research skills;
  • a commitment to high work standards and strong attention to detail;
  • an ability to demonstrate initiative and proactivity;
  • an ability to develop strong relationships with clients and to take responsibility for this relationship;
  • an ability to work well in a team environment (including across Australian offices and internationally);
  • a willingness to learn; and
  • a willingness to develop others through mentoring and sharing experiences.

Main Responsibilities

  • Liaising with clients in respect of their legal matters;
  • Drafting and negotiating various technology and information system contracts and related documents on behalf of clients;
  • Drafting advices and opinions in respect of various legal and regulatory issues in the technology sector;
  • Assisting clients with various regulatory and data privacy issues;
  • Conducting training for clients on legal topics;
  • Coordinating inter-jurisdictional matters;
  • Assisting internal stakeholders with due diligence prior to sale or purchase of companies;
  • Coordinating matter management with partners and internal stakeholders; and
  • Planning on business development strategy for specialist legal or industry-specific working groups.
