Our Summer 2025/26 Vacation Program will have placement opportunities for students in the fields of Mechanical, Civil/Structural and Metallurgical/Chemical Engineering & Construction Management.
To be eligible for our Student Vacation Program you must be:
- Students currently in or commencing your penultimate year of a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering and expecting to graduate sometime in 2026.
- An Australian permanent residents or have a permit to work in Australia.
As a Vac Student at Lycopodium you will be placed in a team who will guide you through work on a real world, in-progress project. You will experience what it is like to work as a professional in your chosen discipline and get a taste of the many options available to you in pursuing a career with us.
Vacation students who impress in their time with us become prime candidates to be placed in our industry-leading Graduate Development Programme (GDP). You can sample some of the exciting opportunities provided through the GDP during your time with us over the summer.
The Summer Vac program runs for 12 weeks from late November 2025 through February 2026, and positions are available in our global head office in Perth, WA.

Who You AreYou're a detail-oriented and technically skilled CAD Technician with expertise in creating precise and accurate design and drafting solutions. Proficient in CAD software and design standards, you excel at transforming concepts into detailed technical drawings, schematics, and models that drive project success. Your ability to interpret engineering specifications and collaborate with teams ensures that designs meet functional, regulatory, and quality requirements.

What You'll DoIn the role of CAD Technician, your duties will include:
+ Prepare Drawings: Under direct supervision, prepare detailed drawings and tracings using the commands and data entry methods specific to the CAD (Computer-Aided Design) system in use.
+ Operate CAD Equipment: Skillfully operate plotters and other output devices to generate hard copies of drawing files.
+ Perform Design Tasks: Engage in design preparation activities which may include PC board path layout and configuration, internal and external packaging, and control panel layouts.
+ Maintain CAD Files: Ensure that all CAD files are properly managed, updated, and stored in accordance with company guidelines.
+ Collaborate with Engineers: Work closely with engineers and other technical team members to understand the requirements and specifications for designs.
+ Implement Revisions: Apply changes and revisions to designs as directed by engineers or supervisors, ensuring all updates are accurately reflected in CAD drawings.
+ Follow Supervision: Adhere to guidelines and instructions provided by supervisors to meet the technical and design standards of the organization.
+ Ensure Accuracy: Check and verify the accuracy and completeness of drawings and specifications before submission for review or use in further engineering activities.
+ Stay Updated: Keep up-to-date with the latest CAD technologies and software updates to improve efficiency and quality of work.
+ Report Progress: Regularly report progress and any issues encountered to the supervising staff to ensure that project timelines and quality standards are met.
+ Other duties as required.
Requirements:
+ Must be a US or Australian citizen
+ Must have a minimum of a BA/BS from an accredited institution.
+ 5+ years technical drafting/design training from either a accredited technical school or military training and 4 years prior drafting experience.
+ Experience managing similar USG projects of size, scope and complexity
+ Experience with AutoCAD and Revit
+ Ability to work in fast paced environment with excellent oral and written communication skills.
Clearance: Must Possess an active US Top Secret/SCI with Polygraph or AUS PV Security Clearance.
This role will be located in Alice Springs, at a 4,400-acre facility with approximately 687,000 square feet of mission and support space. This position is expected to be onsite 100%.
