Job Description
Work with the Anatomical Pathology team to maintain a clinically responsive and cost-effective Histopathology service within the Territory Pathology team, for the Department of Health and its clients.
Context statementTerritory Pathology does not currently offer an on-site non-gynaecology cytology service, but development of this service is a key clinical priority. Territory Pathology currently has four reporting Anatomical Pathology positions.
Key duties and responsibilities1. Demonstrated ability to provide timely, clinically appropriate reporting of Anatomical Pathology cases to referring medical staff.
2. Work collaboratively with fellow Pathologists, registrars, the Network Supervising Scientist Histology and laboratory team to maintain a timely cost-effective Anatomical Pathology service.
3. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
4. Actively participate in external Quality Assurance programs.
5. Oversee the training of RCPA Anatomical Pathology registrars as required.
6. Participate in medical speciality training programs for other Colleges, and teaching at Flinders Medical School, Charles Darwin University.
7. Actively participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings involving discussion of the Anatomical Pathology findings.
Selection criteria Essential1. Possess an Anatomical Pathology Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA), or an equivalent qualification assessed by the RCPA as suitable to work under supervision while achieving the Australian Fellowship.
2. Meeting the requirements for registration in Northern Territory, as a medical specialist is mandatory.
Desirable1. Demonstrated current work experience as a medical specialist in the Histology.
2. Demonstrated drive, initiative and an ability to manage workloads, determine priorities, meet deadlines, and work as a team member.
3. Demonstrated ability to effectively liaise with Territory Pathology staff, patients, clinicians, and administrators utilising high- level oral and written communication skills.
4. Demonstrated previous experience as teacher at a graduate and post-graduate level is desirable.
5. Demonstrated knowledge of the requirements to achieve and maintain accreditation.

You will be working for a private hospital which is the only provider of private hospital services in the Northern Territory. The hospital has 150 beds and provides a broad range of multiday and day surgery including, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Plastic and Reconstructive, Urology, Gastroenterology and ENT and Cardiac Catheter Laboratory.
Where will you be living?
You will be living in a city based in the Northern Territory which has a population of approximately 147,255. People love it here for it's close proximity to Southwest Asia, the amazing food and waterways and fantastic way of life. The region has a tropical climate and a wet and dry season. A period known locally as "the build up" leading up to the wet season sees temperature and humidity increase.
To be eligible for this position, you must have the following:
- Current AHPRA registration, with no restrictions
- At least 12 months of experience in General Medicine
- Current WWCC & National Crime Check
- Must have full Australian working rights (Australian Citizenship, Permanent Residency, a valid Working Visa, or New Zealand Citizenship).
