Job Description
The Data Center Engineering Operations Trainee will be responsible for Data Center Engineering Operations within an Amazon Data Center including risk management and mitigation, corrective and preventative maintenance of critical infrastructure, vendor management and metric reporting.
This position is for a 6 month fixed term hire with a possibility to become a full time role.
Responsibilities may include:
- Assist the on-site management of contractors, sub-contractors and vendors, ensuring that all work performed, is in accordance with established practices, procedures & local legislation.
- Maintaining performance benchmarks, conduct analyses & prepare reports on all aspects of the critical facility infrastructure operations & maintenance.
- Generate Change Management requests & Incident Management tickets for DCEO as directed.
- Learn and contribute to documentation relevant to business & facility operations.
- Assist with the installation of the racks and the provision of power/cooling within its constraints.
- Be involved with the routine maintenance and emergency services on a variety of critical systems such as: switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, building monitoring systems, etc.
- Assist and learn about the design, implementation, commissioning and build out of new facilities.
- Assist with the management of the Facility assets and the provision of infrastructure & inventory asset management as directed.
- May participate in Construction & Operational Meetings as required.
- Assist with Work Order compliance and review of contractual SLAs.
- Interface with Infra Ops teams for day to day operational requirements.

The Infrastructure Operations team is looking for Data Centre Technicians to join our expanding Infrastructure Operations team. Data Centre Technicians are the primary resolver, troubleshooter, and solve a range of data centre infrastructure issues including, but not limited to: hardware, fiber, networking, and related problems.
If you like to use IT principles like computer architecture and the Open Systems Interconnection Model (OSI model) and apply them to finding solutions to problems, we'd like to meet you. Your work will help to maintain one of the world's largest information system infrastructures.
Key job responsibilities
You will be required to engage in physical data centre activities with or without reasonable accommodation. This includes all tasks associated with planning and tracking capacity, rack deployment, rack cabling, hardware and software troubleshooting, and rack decommissioning. Problem Solving:
- Maintain a high level of system reliability by prioritising and resolving trouble tickets efficiently

Technical:

Operations:

Basic Qualifications

* 4+ years of relevant work experience in maintaining a DC or Critical Space facility, or other critical environment with Technical (Military/Trade School) training

We are looking for a Data Centre Engineering Operations Technician (EOT). Our EOT's are Amazon's front line responders for hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and operation. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, stand-by diesel generators, switchboards/switchgears, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems. They provide 24/7 shift coverage which could include 12 hour shifts, rotating shifts, 3, 4, or 5 day work weeks.
Key job responsibilities
- Review the management of both routine and corrective maintenance on a variety of critical systems such as: switch gear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, building monitoring systems, etc.
- Establish performance benchmarks, conduct analyses & prepare reports on all aspects of the critical facility infrastructure operations & maintenance.
- Help with the design, implementation, commissioning and build out of new facilities.
- Create and implement projects to increase current facility capacity, efficiency, sustainability & reliability.
- Manage the facility assets and the provision of infrastructure & inventory asset management.
- Manage the on-site management of contractors, sub-contractors and vendors, ensuring that all work performed, is observing established practices, procedures & local legislation.
- Work with other business leaders to coordinate projects, manage capacity, and optimise plant safety, performance, reliability, sustainability and efficiency.·

We are experiencing rapid growth, therefore your onboarding will be dynamic in nature, where you will gain diverse experience working in new and established AWS data centre's. These future Amazonians will rotate through various AWS locations to complete training as part of their onboarding to prepare for deployment in a data centre region. This training will be completed over a duration of 6-12 months. Once training is completed, individuals will be relocated to the permanent location.
Engineering Operations Technicians support the data centre building and the critical equipment that keeps it running. This includes diesel power generators, HVAC and fire suppression systems. They're responsible for the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the critical infrastructure, supervising specialist vendors, acting as first responders to incidents, and becoming subject matter experts for the facility.

Basic Qualifications
- Degree or technical certification (Military or Trade school)
- Mechanical/HVAC/Electrical engineering or experience at technician level in a critical environment
- 2+ years of maintenance experience on mechanical or electrical equipment
- Experience operating electrical or mechanical systems in a mission critical environment (i.e. Data Centre, telecom, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to participate in a 24 x 7 rotating shift roster
- 2+ years of operations experience in a data centre or critical environment
- Experience with the development of MOPs & SWMS for planned works
- Familiar with the concepts and interaction of Service Management systems (Problem & Change)
- Business-level verbal and written communication skills
- Proven leadership and excellent attention to detail
- Ability to prioritise multiple requests in complex, fast-paced environment
