The Opportunity
KBR's Water business in Brisbane has grown significantly over the past few years, to help support this growth, we are looking for an experienced Design Manager. This is a key role for our business and will drive the delivery of large projects and programs of work across water, wastewater, treatment plants, chemical dosing, hydrogen and desalination. The delivery of these programs is focussed on achieving great customer and community outcomes by leaving a positive, long-lasting legacies wherever we work.
Through accurate forecasting of time, cost and quality outcomes the Design Manager will make evidenced based decisions that consider multiple risk factors to ensure they are managed appropriately.
The Design Manager's responsibilities will focus on ensuring the delivery of early stage detailed designs across multi-disciplinary engineering, environmental, safety and sustainability.
You will be accountable for leading, supporting and empowering a highly skilled group of people, generating the opportunity for staff to grow. Communicating readily with clients and key stakeholders to ensure a collaborative approach will be key.
Who are you?
The ideal candidate will have extensive Design Management/Project Management skills in cost, schedule, risk and change management. It is expected that you will have a tertiary qualification in Engineering or related degree, significant industry experience will also be considered.
You will have the ability to manage large, complex projects and/or programs of work with multiple stakeholders in challenging environments. You will lead and develop teams using your interpersonal skills and proven ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally. Exposure to defence will be highly desirable, building structures or building services also highly sought after.
It is expected that you will have exposure to both Design and Project Management in FEED or detailed design. Strong communication, stakeholder management skills along with change leadership experience will be highly regarded.

Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years Information and Communications Technology (ICT) design experience in Mission Critical Environments
- 5+years of developing design documentation (plans, specifications, etc.) for construction and/or permitting.

# Job Summary:
In this role, you will interpret, organise, and coordinate the multi-disciplinary engineering technical aspects between various projects as part of a capitol works programme. You will coordinate and collaborate with discipline specialists within the organisation and programme plus ensuring integration and interface management is undertaken between the different design consultants and contractors. In this role, you will interpret, organise, and coordinate the multi-disciplinary engineering technical aspects between various projects as part of a capitol works programme. You will coordinate and collaborate with discipline specialists within the organisation and programme plus ensuring integration and interface management is undertaken between the different design consultants and contractors. You will prepare estimates, work plans, and assist with performance reporting. Your technical expertise and coordination will ensure outcomes meet client and project requirements.
# Major Responsibilities:
+ Possesses full technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating the delivery of different work packages.
+ Lead the review of design deliverables, including constructability, value engineering and safety in design considerations.
+ Coordinate with Project Stakeholders and undertake presentations as required, including Stage Gate Reviews.
+ Establish and maintain an accurate Progress Reports.
+ Management and accountability for the timely coordination for all design submissions.
+ Provide input to and own the engineering elements of a project capital estimate (proposals and execution) quantities and budgets.
+ Review major changes or deviations in project scope, project material quantities, budget or schedule, and assists particularly with defining the change, obtaining accurate estimates of the hours involved, and notifying trends in accordance with Project Change Control procedures.
+ Ensure engineering coordination efforts with Project Manager, Procurement/Contracts, Construction, Commissioning & Startup, Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H) and Project Controls.
+ Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.
+ Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project integration and interface management requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution.
# Education and Experience Requirements:
+ Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience.
+ At least 10 years of broad progressive work experience in design engineering, or other relevant types of engineering associated with major building and infrastructure design and construction projects.
# Required Knowledge and Skills:
+ Ability to work effectively under pressure with changing priorities and deadlines
+ Demonstrated ability to effectively influence outcomes and escalate issues appropriately.
+ Demonstrated skill in identifying, analyzing and solving problems

The Water Infrastructure group provides services to a range to both internal and external clients, delivering projects across water and wastewater treatment, civil infrastructure, and defence sectors.
