Reporting to the VLF Engineering Manager, the mechanical engineer will assist the Raytheon Australia engineering team with issues associated with the VLF facility and interfaces to the VLF mission systems.
**Key Responsibilities:**
+ Serve as the on-site VLF facility subject matter expert by providing mechanical system expertise
+ Conduct risk assessments of mechanical / structural hazards, regulatory compliance and propose solutions.
+ Timely and effective communication of hazards, defects and design or maintenance deficiencies.
+ Liaise with Raytheon management on project engineering issues, design process and engineering change development and execute according to company and program procedures.
+ Coordinate with mission partners, acting as a key technical liaison and ensuring that the facility is fully integrated into broader mission planning.
+ Identify potential issues and areas for improvement within the VLF mission system.
+ Participate in technical reviews and audits.
+ Mentor engineering and technical staff.
**Skills, Experience and Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent degree with power generation or mechanical systems industry experience.
+ Minimum of six years' experience in operational and/or in-service support phases of major programs, preferably in Defence technology and/or regional/remote power generation related industries.
+ Understanding of systems engineering, engineering support, maintenance support, and technical documentation disciplines.
+ Knowledge of product life cycle and experience with system performance metrics.
+ Solid skills in relevant business and engineering applications.
+ Infrequent travel to Adelaide will be required to support engineering investigations as well as travel within Australia for business and development related training.
+ Candidate must be eligible to obtain an Australian defence security clearance. Eligibility can be found at with ability to satisfy ITAR material access compliance.
**Desirable Experience**
+ Experience making improvements to processes, systems, or products to enhance performance.

Raytheon Australia is a leading defence contractor with over two decades of experience in Australia's defence and security sector is seeking an Engineer (Electrical/Mechanical) to join our Australian Defence Air Traffic System (ADATS) Capability Assurance Program. This program is modernising critical air traffic control infrastructure across RAAF sites nationwide, implementing next-generation system upgrades while ensuring continuous operational capability. As the Engineer (Electrical/Mechanical), you will play a vital role in integrating and implementing system upgrades across RAAF sites nationwide. Working within a skilled technical team, you'll ensure seamless integration between new COTS systems and existing infrastructure while maintaining operational integrity throughout the transition.
**Key Responsibilities:**
+ Design and implement electrical and mechanical modifications required for the system upgrades.
+ Develop and execute system integration solutions for power distribution and communications cabling.
+ Conduct technical assessments and verification testing of integrated systems.
+ Create and review engineering documentation including modification procedures and technical specifications.
+ Collaborate with vendors and stakeholders to resolve complex integration challenges.
**Qualifications, Experience and Skills**
+ University Degree in Engineering with significant electrical or mechanical engineering component.
+ Minimum 2-5 years of relevant engineering experience in systems integration or implementation.
+ Demonstrated experience in electrical design and system modifications.
+ Strong knowledge of electrical and data interface standards (RS232, RS422, USB, Ethernet).
+ Proven ability to work autonomously with limited supervision on complex technical projects.
**Desirable:**
+ Experience in defence projects or systems engineering environment.
+ Familiarity with military standards and RAN engineering standards.

With a significant pipeline of work in various industries across Australia, including Water, Defence, Energy and Resources this opportunity is for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with experience in FEED, detailed design, consulting or complex engineering projects, including process plants, industrial equipment and machinery, pipelines, drainage systems, pumping stations, or treatment facilities to join our high-performing Adelaide team.
As part of this team, you'll be a member of KBR's Water, Environment and Industrial team, with national exposure across a wide range of industries.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to be responsible for and mentor junior engineers and play a key role in contributing to quality engineering, client relationships, technical oversight, and the commercial success of the business unit. You will collaborate with a diverse team of talented people who are committed to supporting our clients and work on significant infrastructure projects that are shaping the future of Australia.
Role:
This role will suit someone with experience in the delivery of detailed infrastructure design, particularly in the Resources, Water and Wastewater or Defence industries, who is looking to drive technical excellence and guide and develop junior engineers while working across a range of multi-faceted engineering projects.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
+ Assist in defining the scope of works for various projects
+ Prepare concept, preliminary, and detailed designs of mechanical and hydraulic systems, including pumping stations, process plants, industrial facilities and treatment facilities in line with Australian and local authority standards
+ Prepare specifications, selecting materials and components
+ Coordinate works with construction contractors including construction site visits where required
+ Provide technical guidance to designers and less experienced engineers
+ Provide technical oversight to the design of assets across all project stages
+ Work as part of large multi-disciplinary teams to deliver highly coordinated infrastructure documentation
+ Develop standard products and design tools to drive technical excellence and design efficiencies within the broader team
As part of our team, you will play a key role in contributing to quality engineering, client relationships, technical oversight, and the commercial success of the business unit. You will collaborate with a diverse team of talented people who are committed to supporting our clients through long-term partnership arrangements; not to mention a key contributor to delivering projects.
Skills & Experience Required:
+ Hold an accredited Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
+ Engineering design experience with knowledge of industry standards.
+ Hydraulic modelling or pipe stress analysis experience (e.g. CFD, FATHOM, Watergems, CAESAR II) is highly desirable
+ Experience with cranes and/or heavy machinery is highly desirable
+ Proven ability to work in engineering, and design modelling teams, working directly with clients, and manage projects to scope, budget and program.
+ A Chartered Engineer (CPEng) credential from Engineers Australia or the ability to obtain chartership
+ Australian citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a baseline Defence security clearance.
+ International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) eligible*
* As some of the works in the Defence industry support the broader AUKUS program, there is a need to comply with US Department of Defence regulations and access to critical design information is only available to ITAR eligible personnel.
