Working with the Operational and Engineering teams, the purpose of the Systems Engineer position is to serve as the technical leader. You will be responsible for translating customer and business needs into a clear set of project and product requirements. **What will your typical day look like?**
**Technical Leadership & Delivery**
+ Lead the creation of technical design solutions that align with customer needs and project specifications.
+ Approve technical concepts and specifications for use in the project, including calculations, reliability/safety analyses, and system test reports.
+ Interpret and implement customer specifications to ensure the successful technical delivery of projects.
+ Ensure all activities adhere to transit engineering procedures, design rules, and industry best practices.
**Customer & Stakeholder Management**
+ Act as the technical interface for the customer, from the initial tender phase through to serial deliveries.
+ Cooperate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Sales, Production, Quality) on new product development, cost reduction initiatives, and risk analysis.
**Project & Team Collaboration**
+ Serve as the lead Systems Engineer for assigned engineering tenders and projects.
+ Lead and coordinate engineering activities, including project design reviews and gate reviews.
+ As a member of the project core team, provide the Project Manager with regular updates on progress, technical risks, and opportunities.
+ Proactively manage project elements to ensure milestones are achieved within the committed budget and timeline.

**Qualifications**
+ Education: Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronics, or equivalent).
+ Mandatory Professional Registration:
+ Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status and registration on the National Engineering Register (NER) is required.
+ Active registration as a Registered Professional Engineer of Victoria (RPEV) is mandatory.
+ Desirable Registration:
+ Registration as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) is highly desirable.
**Experience**
+ End-to-End Project Ownership: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a systems or project engineering role where you have taken ownership of the technical solution for significant projects.
+ Requirements Management: Demonstrable experience managing competing technical requirements in a complex project environment, preferably using a formal requirements management tool.
+ Customer-Facing Technical Role: Proven experience in direct technical negotiation and relationship management with external customers, particularly during tender, design review, and delivery phases.
+ Cross-Functional Leadership: Experience coordinating and influencing multi-disciplinary teams (Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Production) to achieve a unified project goal. Experience in the Australian rail industry is highly advantageous but not essential for a candidate with strong experience in a comparable safety-critical industry.

Working under broad direction, the Systems Engineer will contribute to strategic planning, program and project management, and provide expert engineering advice. You will have the opportunity to work independently with a high level of autonomy and accountability, while also collaborating within an integrated workforce to achieve outcomes that directly support Defence capability.
Key Responsibilities
+ Perform complex engineering activities, providing detailed advice in systems engineering.
+ Develop, review, and update technical reports, risk assessments, hazard logs, and related documentation.
+ Apply engineering expertise to identify and manage risks, uncertainties, and priorities.
+ Build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, mentoring junior engineers as required.
+ Review and assess technical and design packages, providing recommendations and ensuring implementation.

KBR's Land Systems Division is expanding, and we are seeking an experienced Defence Systems Engineer with a software focus to join our Armoured Fighter Vehicle (AFV) Branch. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to Australia's next-generation land combat vehicle capability, including programs such as:
+ Boxer Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle
+ Abrams Main Battle Tank
+ Redback Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV)
+ Other critical Armoured Fighting Vehicle platforms
You will work within a multidisciplinary engineering team supporting systems engineering, software design, integration, verification, and sustainment activities. This role provides exposure to complex land vehicle systems, including mobility, lethality, survivability, electronic systems, and integrated logistic support, all within the Authorised Engineering Organisation (AEO) framework.
All candidates will be required to hold and maintain an active NV1 Defence Security Clearance. Only candidates holding a NV1 Clearance or above should apply.
Responsibilities:
+ Apply systems engineering principles across the full lifecycle, with a software focus, from requirements development through verification and validation.
+ Develop and review Technical Investigations, Engineering Support Reports, Technical Instructions, and Test & Evaluation documentation for armoured vehicle systems.
+ Participate in engineering design reviews and contribute to engineering change and configuration management processes.
+ Assist with the integration of mechanical, electrical, and mission systems, with a particular emphasis on software and embedded systems.
+ Support upgrade projects and act as a Design Acceptance Representative where required.
+ Contribute to Systems Engineering Management Plans (SEMPs), risk management activities, and adherence to Defence certification standards.
+ Develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships with Defence, industry partners, and suppliers.
+ Mentor and guide junior engineers and graduate team members.
As the ideal candidate you will bring:
+ Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related discipline. Chartered status is highly regarded.
+ Minimum of 5 years' experience in Defence systems engineering with a software focus, ideally in land vehicle platforms.
+ Proven expertise in requirements management, risk management, configuration management, and verification & validation processes.
+ Exposure to software development, integration, and testing in complex systems highly desirable.
+ Familiarity with ASDEFCON contracting frameworks, AEO requirements, and Defence acquisition processes.

As the ideal candidate you will bring:
+ Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related discipline. Chartered status is highly regarded.
+ Minimum of 5 years' experience in Defence systems engineering with a software focus, ideally in land vehicle platforms.
+ Proven expertise in requirements management, risk management, configuration management, and verification & validation processes.
+ Exposure to software development, integration, and testing in complex systems highly desirable.
+ Familiarity with ASDEFCON contracting frameworks, AEO requirements, and Defence acquisition processes.
+ Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects, support upgrades, and deliver engineering solutions in line with Defence standards.

Join KBR's Land Systems Division and play a key role in delivering the next generation of Armoured Fighting Vehicle capability for Defence Capability. As a Systems Engineer you will support projects that integrate and sustain advanced C4I and EMI systems across protected mobility and combat platforms.
This role offers exposure to cutting-edge Defence technology including battle management systems, secure comms, electronic warfare, and interoperability solutions. You'll work alongside various stakeholders to keep complex programs on track and aligned with operational requirements.

Responsibilities:
+ Participate in engineering design reviews and contribute to engineering change and configuration management processes.
+ Support the integration and sustainment of C4I systems across armoured vehicle fleets, including communications, battle management, navigation, and situational awareness tools.
+ Assist in the integration of mechanical, electrical, and mission systems, including weapons, protection, and C4I sub-systems.
+ + Contribute to the systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements management, verification & validation, and risk/issue tracking.
+ Prepare project documentation including status reports, meeting packs, and stakeholder briefs.
+ Liaise with internal and external stakeholders across Defence, primes, and industry partners to support the delivery of capability outcomes.
+ Support configuration management, schedule tracking, and procurement activities related to C4I and EMI projects.
As the ideal candidate you will bring:
+ A degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering.
+ Demonstrated experience working within Defence acquisition, ILS, or systems engineering environments.
+ Exposure to C4I integration and/or EMI testing and certification.
+ Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
+ Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams supporting complex programs of national significance.
+ Current NV1 Defence security clearance (minimum).

As a Mission Planning Systems (MPS) Systems Engineer, you will provide expert systems engineering guidance and advice to support KBR's Defence and Technology Solutions Line of Business.
Working under the direction of the Principal Engineer, this role will involve supporting the delivery of Defence projects in line with established policies, procedures, and systems. You will play a key part in ensuring the successful delivery of secure, compliant, and accredited software, applications, and IT systems.
The key responsibilities of the role will include, but is not limited to:
+ Network and software systems analysis and design including the development of artefacts to support technical certification.
+ Identifying and managing program technical risks and issues within the support to operations scope.
+ Updating, reviewing, and verifying documentation produced in support of project development and sustainment.
+ The duties will leverage on systems engineering skills and provide the MPS Project Manager and KBR customers with advice related to system design, implementation, testing and acceptance.
+ Accepting responsibility and accountability for assigned project(s), including performance accountability.
+ Acting with a degree of autonomy for team and system tasking outcomes.
+ Fostering a positive work environment that is professional, dynamic and innovative.
As the ideal candidate you will bring:
Essential:
+ Current AGSVA security clearance - NV1 or higher
+ Engineering Degree suitable to achieve membership of Engineers Australia in relevant Communications, Computing, or Electronics related field.
+ A minimum of 3-5 years' experience in an Information Technology or Engineering discipline.
+ Experience and proven expertise in the areas of military Command, Control, Communications, and Computers (C4I).
+ Experience as a System Engineer in the development of software and hardware systems.
+ Experience working within a Systems Engineering Lifecycle as well as authoring & reviewing technical documentation.
+ Experience working with aviation related software standards and Australian Defence regulatory frameworks.
+ Experience working with project teams in the delivery of complex ICT systems.
+ Strong client and staff engagement, relationship and communications skills.
+ Well-developed interpersonal skills.
Desirable:
+ Experience with Defence ICT environments (including Defence Protected Environment (DPE) and Defence Secret Environment (DSE)).
+ Demonstrable knowledge of Aviation Mission Planning and of the Defence Air Component - Command and Control Capability System (AC-C2CS) environment.
+ Project scheduling experience.
