Health Education Team Manager – Medically Supervised Injecting Centre (MSIC)

Monday to Friday, 9:30am – 6:00pm | Award role

p>At Uniting’s Medically Supervised Injecting Centre (MSIC), we stand at the forefront of harm reduction and compassionate care. For over two decades, MSIC has been a safe, non-judgemental service for people who inject drugs – reducing overdose deaths, connecting people with health and social support, and working alongside the local community.

Health Education Team Manager to lead and inspire our dedicated team of Health Education Officers (HEOs). This is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for shaping the day-to-day operations of the HEO team, guiding frontline harm reduction practice, and contributing to MSIC’s ongoing service development and strategic direction.

p>About the role

As the Health Education Team Manager, you will:

  • Lead, mentor and develop a diverse team of HEOs, ensuring they have the skills, resources and confidence to deliver safe, high-quality support.
  • Foster a workplace culture that is inclusive, respectful, and grounded in harm reduction principles.
  • Work closely with the MSIC Senior Leadership Team to translate strategy into action – including planning, budgeting, reporting and continuous improvement.
  • Provide leadership at the frontline by modelling best-practice responses to consumer presentations, including drug overdose management in collaboration with the clinical team.
  • Deliver training and education in harm reduction practice, supporting capability-building across MSIC.
  • Oversee staffing within allocated budgets and in accordance with relevant industrial agreements and Uniting policies.
  • Lead health promotion and project initiatives such as the MSIC Art Project, and strengthen engagement with First Nations peoples in service design and delivery.
  • Contribute to policy development, service evaluation, report writing, grant applications, and published articles.
  • Build effective internal and external stakeholder relationships that enhance outcomes for MSIC consumers and the community.
p>About you

We are looking for a collaborative, compassionate and confident leader who brings:

  • Proven experience leading teams in health, community services, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of harm reduction approaches and the issues impacting people who inject drugs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage staffing, budgets, WH&S and compliance in a complex service environment.
  • Experience in responding to and managing behaviour escalations and/or assisting with medical emergencies, such as overdose
  • Excellent communication, training and facilitation skills, with the ability to inspire and empower staff.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to advocate for positive outcomes for vulnerable communities.

    **The Role**
    As the Environment, Health, Safety & Wellbeing Advisor for ACEASP, you will be passionate about contributing with every interaction and making a difference to our health, safety and wellbeing culture. You will report to the Deputy Program Manager and be responsible for the day-to-day effectiveness and implementation of Raytheon's EHSW Management system, by partnering with and understanding the unique needs of company operations, ACEASP and Sites. You will assist in the provision of sustainable work by targeting best practice levels of safety and legislative compliance in an environment of continuous improvement. This is role involves providing advice, coordination and activities across all levels of business operations, and partnering effectively with internal and external stakeholders on environment, health, safety & wellbeing matters. You will fold your operational insights and investigative findings into our EHSW Management System and projects to create a healthy and safe operating rhythm and feedback loop.
    **Key Responsibilities**
    + Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including health & safety representatives, varied workgroups, customer representatives and sub-contractors.
    + Achieving and maintaining compliance with the Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Act and relevant jurisdictional requirements.
    + Oversee environment, safety and health inductions of all personnel, visitors and contractors at relevant site.
    + Contribute to and facilitate implementation of policies, plans, procedures and processes, including high quality reporting and records management.
    + Support and facilitate the application of the Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Control process at the working level, in a manner that supports the specific operational needs of the jurisdiction.
    + Partner with site leaders and managers to proactively respond to environment, health and safety issues before and as they arise, including undertaking investigations following incidents or occurrences to determine likely causes, corrective actions and improvement opportunities and control effectiveness.
    + Proactively promote and coordinate program engagement processes and initiatives to deliver the company's Environment, Health and Safety Plan.
    + Advise, participate in and support internal and external audit programs and inspections.
    + Routinely advise, schedule and implement training on environment, health and safety topics.
    + Schedule and conduct reviews and audits of jurisdiction and subcontractor activities to verify compliance.
    + Manage the timely compilation and reporting of jurisdiction performance metrics.
    + Assist with the implementation and development of procedures to maintain appropriate emergency response support to the Site Emergency Planning Committee where required.
    + Support Return to-Work activities where applicable.
    + Other duties as deemed relevant to program and operational requirements and within the technical competency of the position
    **Experience, Skills and Qualifications:**
    + Requires a University Degree in Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or related discipline, or equivalent experience (desirable)
    + Certificate IV (or higher) in Work Health and Safety (essential)
    + Certificate IV in Workplace Training & Assessment (desirable)
    + 'C' Class Driver's license (essential)
    + Senior First Aid certificate (essential)
    + NV1 Security Clearance, or ability to obtain (essential)
    + Technical writing skills (essential)
    + Demonstrated experience consulting with stakeholders in a matrix environment (essential)
    + Experience with Power BI, excel, databases or data analytics (desired)
