About the role
Enerven are seeking a Principal Automation Engineer to join our design team and lead the delivery of some of Australia's most significant renewable energy infrastructure and transmission projects. This exciting portfolio includes the 500MW Liddell BESS, the 2.8GWh Eraring BESS and the 500kV Goulburn River Solar Farm connection in New South Wales where Enerven is delivering the critical infrastructure needed to drive Australia’s renewable energy transition.
As the Principal Automation Engineer, you will provide technical leadership, guidance, mentorship to team members, act as a technical authority of automation and control systems designs whilst playing a key role in the successful delivery of automation designs across the project portfolio. You will support the Automation Team Lead and contribute expert knowledge across all automation-related deliverables.
Day to day you will be responsible for:
- Leading the development of automation design standards, procedures and templates to improve the efficiency and quality of the Automation team output.
- Work with the broader engineering and delivery team to mitigate delivery risks.
- Maintain strong relationships with other Enerven Engineering discipline leads, delivery teams and external resources.
- Lead, recruit, train and mentor engineers with the support of other engineers within the team.
- This role will primarily be office-based, focusing on design tasks. However, site involvement and hands-on experience during key stages of project delivery will be required.
- It is expected that you will travel between Enerven offices to interface with interstate team members.
- Providing technical engineering advice, you will make sound decisions based on technical, commercial, and contractual requirements and work with internal and external stakeholders.
About you
You will be required to have detailed knowledge of automation design, substation and renewables engineering principles, a vast knowledge of configuration of automation equipment (PLCs, RTUs, HMIs, SCADA, networking equipment), as well as solid fundamentals in cyber security. You also need to be competent with technical management skills in leading, structuring and delivering processes, procedures and templates along with estimating skills for engineering.
Specific qualifications and experience required include:
- A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or other relevant control systems degree.
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng)
- Demonstrated experience in either design leadership or management roles.
- Proven experience delivering designs for major transmission utilities in NSW or SA
- A current and valid driver’s licence

+ Deep domain knowledge of Industrial Process control systems and Advanced Process control for continuous process industries.
+ Practical real world field experience of applying Industrial automation systems and Advanced Process control for end customers
+ Knowledge of and experience applying various Artificial Intelligence technologies in real world applications, Understands the challenges and pitfalls of AI as well as the opportunities when applied to Industrial automation.
+ Experience in global R&D environment for new Product Development preferred
+ Experience as principal researcher / investigator in a university setting or has worked closely with universities would be highly valued
+ Experience in domains such as aviation, robotics, and autonomous vehicles is valued
+ Experience in applying AI for control, sensing and vision systems is valued

# Education and Experience Requirements:

+ Broad progressive work experience in design engineering, science or other relevant types of engineering such as systems startup, field engineering or plant operation in large scale mining facilities, bulk-material handling facilities, mineral processing facilities, industrial plants, utilities, process plants, or engineering/construction firms.

Basic Qualifications
Relevant experience with PLC controlled automation and issue diagnosis in a continuous process or production environment.
Experience supporting a wide range of different conveyors and sortation systems.
Experience in dealing with material handling, flow and capacity visualization and monitoring.
Preferred Qualifications
