**ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES**
+ Instills a safety-first mentality within respective work areas and a culture that achieves low accident rates and minimal lost-time injuries.
+ Perform incident investigations to include root cause analysis and provide assistance with developing and implementing appropriate corrective actions.
+ Provide or coordinate safety training for employees as required. Develop and lead safety toolbox talks on relevant EHS material.
+ Develop and maintain the safety, health and environmental program recordkeeping and reporting system. Support the development, implementation and data capture for leading and lagging indicators to include corrective actions resulting from workplace inspections, process improvements, employee observations, EHS related incidents/injuries/near misses, etc.
+ Assist site Working Groups with the development of Safe Work Procedures, task hazards analysis, safe work method statements (SWMS), and other risk assessments. Provide coaching, mentoring and advising to all levels of the workforce to promote a safe work culture.
+ Conduct and document periodic workplace inspections to identify hazardous conditions and regulatory non-compliance issues. Work with relevant working groups to resolve issues identified.
+ Keep abreast of pending regulatory developments through reference sources; obtains insight on legislative agendas at state and federal levels. Advise administration on appropriate risk management policies, procedures, and issues of safety.
+ Coordinate with external vendors for various EHS related site visits including equipment inspections, waste removal, and site surveys as required.
+ Develop plans, procedures, and policies to continuously improve the EHS program.
+ Assist with the successful implementation of the Health and Safety Representative (HSR) program.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
**Minimum Essential**
+ Diploma in safety or related field, or equivalent
+ 1 to 3 years' experience in occupational safety
+ Must possess working knowledge of the Australian Work Health Safety Act 2011

+ Bachelor's Degree in safety or related field, or equivalent

This role is for an experienced EHS Manager, Safety Specialist or Safety Engineer. The role's prime responsibility will be to work as part of a team to support the safety operations in Melbourne, Australia. As well as this, there may be opportunities to support other states or countries.
The chosen person must be an effective communicator, sending clear, concise and consistent messages verbally, in written form, and/or public speaking forums. This individual must advise, instruct and train company personnel on safety policies and procedures, as well as assist the teams in incorporating our safety standards at their sites.
You will work with internal and external partners to maintain and enhance the safety of operations. Coordination with onsite physical security, vendors, compliance officers, risk management, and fire/life safety systems is required. Additionally, you will work with employees and contractors to achieve specific safety objectives and work closely with construction builds.
This role will report to the Regional Safety Manager, Australia & New Zealand, and be responsible for continuing to enhance the safety of operations and construction. This position is based in Melbourne, some international travel may be required.
Key job responsibilities
- Implement safety standards, policies and practices including but not limited to; safety management systems, training, and risk assessments.
- Collaborate with other groups within Amazon (Facilities Managers, Human Resources, Operations) and outside vendors (General Contractors, sub-contractors, Emergency Services) as they relate to operations and construction.
- Ensure compliance and implementation of global safety programs and local regulatory legislation.
- Develop safety plans for on-site emergencies, special events and other unique safety situations.
- Perform safety data analysis and create benchmarking.
- Ensure safety recordkeeping and provide accurate reporting and metrics to support business safety initiatives.
- Consult and work with legal for safety regulations interpretations and investigations.
- Develop and implement solutions to eliminate exposure to these risks and prevent injury.
- Adapt to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, strategy and deadlines.

Basic Qualifications

Basic Qualifications
- Graduation date within the last 24 months or will be completing their studies prior to their start date of the role: 1) Completed a tertiary qualification (undergraduate or postgraduate) in Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) or; 2) Candidates with degree (or equivalent) qualifications not in Safety disciplines, but who have relevant experience or; 3) Engineering Degree will also be considered provided the candidate has an interest and passion in Safety
Preferred Qualifications
- Interest in or previous experience in safety related employment
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, especially around health and safety needs to all levels of the organization
- Ability to adapt well to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy
- Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem solving ability.
- Prior internship experience in OH&S (desirable)

**How you'll make a difference**
+ Providing substantial technical expertise of fire engineering, from first principles to the ability of leading a large-scale fire engineering projects from concept stage through to building occupation.
+ Project and client relationship management across a variety of markets
+ Use your significant expertise in developing performance-based fire engineering strategies across a wide range of buildings and infrastructure projects.
+ Mentor team members in their development, facilitate opportunities that build competency, and assisting with professional accreditation where appropriate.
