# Project Overview:
Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets.
The M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India, and other project locations around the world.
# Job Summary:
As the Project Estimator, you will prepare and review the preparation and presentation of the estimate, be responsible for the complete planning, analysis and review cycle of the estimate.
You will direct the cost estimate effort on a major project or multiple small projects, providing estimating assistance and guidance to the projects. You will perform department organizational and administrative activities when delegated and provide direction to others on project/program level tasks.
_This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership._
# Major Responsibilities:
+ Manages the development of estimates from inception to completion. Develop achievable estimate plans, inclusive of budget and schedule, and lead a team of discipline estimators in executing the estimate.
+ Reviews estimate and ensures quality and integrity. Ensures lessons learned are incorporated into the estimate.
+ Responsible preparing and presenting presentations to clients and senior management.
+ Manages estimating strategies with Project Management and joint venture partners as applicable.
+ Supports development of estimating standards and procedures.
+ Prepares cost studies utilizing historical data, statistical analysis and cost and quantity comparisons. Develops new techniques as required to meet specific needs.
+ Other responsibilities as designated.
# Education and Experience Requirements:
+ Extensive knowledge and experience in EPC, EPCM & Lump Sum estimating practices and methods, including demonstrated ability to organize, direct, perform, review and present cost estimating products with a minimum of supervision.
# Required Knowledge and Skills:
+ Demonstrated advanced understanding of Estimating core processes requiring minimal direction and supervision.
+ Advanced knowledge of EPC & EPCM estimating methods, processes, and procedures. Understands estimate types, classifications, and components. Specifically understands detail level estimates and design packages.
+ Technical and practical comprehension of engineering, procurement and construction methods and techniques.
+ Significant knowledge and experience in quantity take-offs, statistical analysis, and cost and price analysis, life cycle analysis and management of personnel.
+ Advanced understanding of craft productivity, current market pricing in related areas and knowledge of construction practices in local work region.
+ Advanced knowledge of construction methods and techniques in area of specialisation and have a general understanding of other disciplines. Familiar with engineering and construction codes and standards.
+ Thorough understanding of project cash flows and the corresponding time value of money as the cost of working capital.
+ Thorough understanding of cost index and escalation projection sources.
+ Understands and contributes to risk and contingency assessments.
+ Proficient in Microsoft and scheduling software applications currently being used by Bechtel (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Primavera, Microsoft Project). Proficient in estimating applications used for discipline estimates and knowledgeable of at least one general estimating system currently being used by Bechtel (EPIC, BETK, HCSS, Candy, Expert Estimation etc.).
+ Skilled in oral and written communications, including presentation skills and ability to address a group of supervisors.

+ Intermediate knowledge of key principles involved in bid preparation; including quantity takeoff procedures and systems, subtrade partner procurement, pricing, interdepartmental functions, general expense philosophy and bid-closing procedures.
+ Understanding of compensation models, market conditions, business trends, internal historical information, and competitors.
+ Familiar with different delivery methods: hard bid, guaranteed maximum price (GMP), unit price, design-build, target prices, and cost reimbursable.

+ Validate methodology, risk & opportunity, and schedule against client requirements.

+ 12 years of progressive experience in construction cost estimating with 12 months of onsite experience preferred.
+ Successfully led pursuits valued up to $250 million in delivery model hard bid/lump sum, construction management/cost reimbursable/target price and/or design build.
+ Experience with self-perform estimate and productivity understanding.
+ Knowledge and understanding of different construction methods, planning, scheduling, sequencing, potential problems, and timelines and is a district champion in these matters.
+ Extensive knowledge of key principles involved in bid preparation, including quantity take-off procedures, trade contractor procurement, pricing and bid closing procedures.
+ Expert in understanding and teaching contract terms for various delivery models and able to identify contract risks and opportunity.
+ Understands different bid processes and contract delivery type methods: Hard bid/lump sum, guaranteed maximum price (GMP), unit price, design-build, target prices and construction management/cost reimbursable.
+ Ability to lead successful teams.
+ Resourceful and self-motivated with strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
+ Strong ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with owners, peers and industry representatives, and leverage the industry relationships for a competitive advantage.

**About the role**
We are currently seeking a **Commercial Estimator** to join our Site Pro 1 facility in **Acacia Ridge, QLD** .
Reporting to the **Customer Delivery Manager** , this role is key to delivering exceptional service and technical support to our Telco customers. You'll focus on driving sales growth by providing timely and accurate estimates, supporting project planning, and ensuring value delivery to our clients.
**How will you contribute:**
+ Manage incoming quote requests for site-specific steel requirements and cable ladder systems
+ Perform take-offs for cable ladder installations and prepare comprehensive bill of materials
+ Coordinate and prioritise workflow for new steel requests in collaboration with the Engineering team
+ Identify and manage potential design issues with Engineering and Project Management
+ Source pricing from local suppliers for non-SP1/Ingal items
+ Prepare detailed material lists required for projects
+ Support the sales team with commercial and technical requirements as needed
**What you'll need to succeed:**
+ Knowledge of our business, steel products, and QAD (preferred but not essential)
+ Strong experience in stakeholder management across departments
+ Familiarity with logistics and material handling of steel products (preferred)
+ Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
+ Excellent communication skills across all levels of the business
