Our highly regarded Environmental team in Darwin is seeking Graduate to Professional-level Environmental Scientists and Engineers to support a wide range of exciting and meaningful projects across the Defence, government, mining, and energy sectors.

The Junior Data Scientist is responsible for high quality data science and advanced analytics work which is the responsibility of the State Operational Data Store Program. This position will be expected to apply superior data science and statistical modelling techniques, tools and processes to the unique health data. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team and be responsible for investigative analytics work, structured statistical model building and the associated data engineering pipeline and platform for key enterprise solutions on behalf of State ODS Program initiatives as commissioned by NSW Health.

The Health Manager level 2, starting salary from $1 9,857 - 129,624 plus Super and annual leave loading, with a 38-hour work week.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Complete advanced data analysis and data scientist related tasks for projects undertaken by the State ODS Program team.
  • Review and develop machine learning based algorithms and where appropriate, tune or tweak the algorithms to ensure it is relevant, output is reproducible and reflects modern techniques.
  • Perform algorithm validation including relevant documentation of test case and evidence of test execution outcomes
  • Interpret output derived from algorithms generated and understand the assumptions applied during development of algorithms and the limitations.
  • Providing output of the developed algorithms to the development team in a manner which allows for the deployment in an application production environment.

About You

We are seeking a motivated and committed individual who can support the work of NSW Health with the following experience;

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and / or relevant experience in Data Science, Data Analytics, Actuarial, Mathematics, and Statistics. A history of openness and curiosity to explore new analytics techniques and data engineering principles and tools is essential.
  • Experience (>1 years) with a range of analytics methodologies, ideally including predictive modelling (e.g. Generalised Linear Model regression, discriminant analysis, or similar)
  • Experience (>1 years) in machine learning concepts and algorithms (e.g. supervised and unsupervised learning, regression, classification, clustering, and natural language processing (NLP), deep learning techniques, neural networks etc.) is desirable.
  • Experience (>1 years) in the utilisation of SQL, Python, Jupyter Notebook and Panda/ Numpy/ SQLAlchemy/ Matplotlib Library
  • Experience (>1 years) in data wrangling process and demonstrated competency in cleaning and organising complex dataset.

We are looking for an experienced environmental approvals professional who can lead the delivery of timely, high-quality environmental impact assessments, constraints analyses, strategic assessments and environmental management plans and assist in the organisation of resources, budgets, and timelines for the management of these projects.
A key differentiator of this role is that we are looking for someone to fill the Environmental Impact Assessment Team Leader role, as a 12 month parental leave cover. **Job Description**
**How you'll make a difference:**
+ Working closely with industry specialists to undertake and coordinate environmental impact assessments and approvals on Defence projects
+ Work alongside Management Teams, to ensure environmental matters are appropriately considered and managed at all stages of design development and project construction
+ Project manage, develop bids and develop relationships with clients and stakeholders on a range of projects.
+ Coordinate and provide guidance to multidisciplinary teams, helping identify risks, resolve issues, and manage change through planning, design and approval stages.
+ Support the continued growth of our business and foster the development of environmental planning and approvals across the region.
**Qualifications**
**What we're looking for:**
+ A degree in environmental science (or a related field), with solid experience in environmental impact assessments and planning approvals across a range of sectors.
+ Strong experience working on Defence projects in Australia - you'll need to hold a Baseline clearance at a minimum and have a solid understanding of the Defence environment framework.
+ Demonstrated experience in the assessment of impact to environment and heritage values on the Defence estate
+ Understanding of the EPBC Act 1999 and how it applies to environmental impact assessment and Defence projects
+ Strong coordination skills with the ability to manage budgets, timelines and deliverables, while building trusted client relationships and contributing to a positive, collaborative team culture.
