Job Description
The Storage Engines Server Integration team owns and maintains the core abstractions that enable the rest of the MongoDB server engineering teams to interact with the underlying storage engine. While WiredTiger is our primary production storage engine, we manage the Storage Engine API to ensure that it remains flexible and adaptable for future use. Our integration layer is critical for providing robust, clear, and high-performance access to data, ensuring durability, integrity, and scalability for all deployment architectures, including both monolithic and disaggregated systems.
Engineering at MongoDB is globally distributed, with a mix of folks being fully remote, hybrid, or in-office. Most of our team calls Sydney home, but we have folks elsewhere in NSW, Victoria, New Zealand, Vancouver, and Boston. We work closely with other teams in Sydney and North America. bringing together different skills and perspectives. Together, we're pushing MongoDB forward to meet the growing needs of our customers.

**You're an ideal candidate if**
+ You have 2 or more years of experience managing a team of software engineers
+ You have strong technical judgment that you use to effectively guide engineering decisions without necessarily writing code yourself

**As an Engineering Manager on the Storage Engines team you will**
+ Lead a team of 7-10 engineers, managing all aspects of people management including hiring, growth, compensation, and performance management
+ Be directly responsible for the results your team delivers
+ Play a key role in defining the roadmap for the next 12 months
+ Drive improvements to processes and tools especially those that allow us to confidently make changes to high risk parts of our codebase
+ Use our data warehouse to inform decisions and measure the impact of work the team ships
+ Guide the team through making complex changes that balance performance against other requirements
+ Handle (or lead the effort to handle) time-sensitive customer escalations
+ Collaborate with stakeholders and engineering teams across the company to jointly work on large initiatives
+ Work with product managers, program managers, and other teams to specify, prioritize and deliver new features that delight our users
+ Ensure high quality and velocity in the design and implementation of new functionality in the serverWiredTiger
+ Be open to occasional (once a year) travel to the US
**Success Measures**
+ In the first month:
+ You have understood the high level architecture of the serverWiredTiger and the team's responsibilities
+ You are starting to develop relationships with key stakeholders
+ You have gained familiarity with the required day-to-day processes to manage the team
+ In three months:
+ You have taken over management of your team, and are starting to build trust with your reports
+ You have assumed responsibility for the day-to-day processes necessary to keep the lights on
+ You are involved in reviewing the design for new features and helping the team navigate technical challenges
+ In six months:
+ You have established your role as a leader in the organization such that team members naturally go to you for guidance
+ You are beginning to involve yourself in planning and roadmapping efforts
+ You are leading the planning and execution of a new major feature
+ In twelve months:
+ You have performed a full annual cycle of performance and growth conversations with your team members
+ You have contributed to the vision for the future of the Storage Engines team and helped develop a plan to achieve that vision
+ You have increased the capability and velocity of your team in measurable ways

We're seeking a Network and Server Operations Team Lead to oversee the delivery, integration, and sustainment of secure, high-performance ICT systems in support of Australian Defence Force mission planning capability. This is a key leadership role responsible for managing both the technical direction and day-to-day operations of network and server environments across fixed and deployed Defence contexts.
In this role, you will lead a team of skilled technicians to maintain and evolve critical infrastructure, including physical servers, networking hardware, system configurations, and software environments. You'll provide technical leadership across system imaging, security compliance, scripting, and data support while ensuring alignment with Defence ICT accreditation standards and operational requirements. You will also manage performance, drive continuous improvement, and foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
This position is ideal for an experienced systems leader with a strong understanding of Defence ICT environments and a passion for delivering secure, mission-ready infrastructure. As a Technical Server Developer, you will:
Develop efficient multiplayer gaming server solutions in c#/DotNet. (Predominantly c# 10+, DotNet Standard2 and DotNet6+)
In conjunction with Unity experts, debug and enhance Unity integration with the server
In conjunction with hosting/infrastructure experts, develop and maintain solutions to deploy and update the solutions. (Predominantly AWS cloud deployment)
Cooperate with PHP experts in developing API and reporting solutions to support the multiplayer servers.
Possess knowledge of multiplayer concepts. Know how to identify and resolve (or preferably avoid) concurrency, locking, queues and race conditions.
Use necessary server technologies to improve efficiency (e.g. caching, queuing, automation).
Assist in monitoring and debugging servers and solutions.
Write code and design solutions in accordance with applicable code quality standards.
Requirements:
Have over 2 years working with c#/DotNet in a relevant multiplayer project.
Understand supporting technologies; socket connections (TCP and UDP), data compression, encryption, etc.
Experience working in a gaming environment. Preferable: have developed solutions in Unity.
Experience with cloud hosting and deployment, preferably AWS.
Knowledge of source control (preferable GIT), JIRA
Preferable: Knowledge of mySQL, memcached and redis.
Non Technical Skills:
