**Position Summary:**
We are seeking an experienced, skilled and driven Mechanical **Design Engineer** to join our diverse, dynamic, high-performance engineering team. This role is focused on design and delivery of mechanical solutions for slurry analyser systems (e.g. Samplers & Analysers) and associated equipment in the mining environment within the Minerals product portfolio of the Chemical Analysis Division (CAD) of Thermo Fisher to match client requirements. This will involve working with the commercial and sales teams at the bidding phase of projects as well as working with Project Managers and Operations team on project execution. This is a customer-facing role that requires hands-on design expertise and strong communication skills.
**Key Responsibilities:**
**Engineering Support to Commercial & Sales Teams:**
+ Collaborate with Sales team and customers to gather design requirements, provide technical feedback and generate/clarify exceptions to specifications.
+ Review sales proposals for technical feasibility and provide suggested improvements/changes where required.
+ Provide engineering drawing packages, specification reviews, data sheets, costings and other technical requirements to Sales team in a timely manner.
+ Provide expert advice to Engineering companies in integrating sampling and analysis solutions into overall plant layout design.
+ Offer solutions consistent with annual vertical market strategic plans.
+ Work closely with Project Managers, operations and supply chain teams to meet lead time and quality targets
**Project Delivery:**
+ Prepare project specific engineering documentation, including BOMs, detailed drawings, part specs, and engineering change notices.
+ Ensure that designs are safe, fit for purpose and cost effective. This will necessitate an understanding of appropriate safety laws, client requirements, and manufacturing capabilities.
+ Perform engineering calculations, including structural, fluid flow, and pressure analysis, and conduct FEA and CFD simulations when required to validate and optimize designs.
+ Support the full lifecycle of projects - from initial design to delivery and support.
+ Collaborate with project managers, production teams, and clients to ensure technical compliance and timely execution.
+ Other duties as required to ensure project delivery.

**Continuous Improvement:**

+ Minimum 7 years work experience in a related mechanical design engineering role.
+ Customer-facing engineering experience in mining or heavy mechanical industry - must be comfortable communicating directly with clients, understanding needs, and communicating solutions
+ Strong understanding of specification review, project compliance, and ability to read and understand engineering plant drawings and P&ID diagrams
+ Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD platform
+ Proven capability in engineering calculations, structural and flow-related, and good understanding of mechanical systems design principles for harsh/industrial environments
+ Experience performing FEA (e.g., stress, vibration) and CFD (e.g., flow path, erosion analysis).
+ End-to-end project delivery experience from design through implementation
+ Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
+ Familiarity with manufacturing processes and design-for-manufacturing (DFM) principles
+ Demonstrated knowledge or and experience working to engineering and AS/ISO standards, including the ISO 9001: Quality System
