This project will investigate artificial intelligence (AI) to improve weather forecasts and use crop models for making better farming decisions. The expected outcome is protocols for integrating AI-enhanced weather forecasts and crop models into farm management and planning tools. This is expected to result in farmers making more informed decisions that optimise resource use, boost crop yields, and enhance overall farm productivity and profitability while minimising environmental impact.


Scholarship includes 60-day Industry Engagement component with the industry partner and a structured professional development and training package.


Value


  • Stipend of AUD $47,000 (2025 rate).
  • A project expense and development package of up to $13,000 per annum.
  • Maximum period of tenure of an award is 4 years. Periods of study already undertaken towards the degree will be deducted from the period of tenure.


Eligibility


To be eligible applicants must:


  • Have completed an Honours Degree with First Class or 2A Honours, or equivalent level, or a master’s degree with significant research component.
  • Not be receiving equivalent support providing a benefit greater than 75% of the student’s stipend rate.
  • Be an Australian citizen or Permanent Resident, or a New Zealand citizen.
  • Meet participating university PhD admission requirements.
  • Meet university English language requirements.
  • Not have previously completed a PhD.
  • Be able to commence the Program in the year of the offer.
  • Enrol as a full-time PhD student.
  • Be prepared to be located at the project location(s) that the host university has approved and, if required, comply with the host university’s external enrolment procedures.


Selection criteria


To be eligible applicants must have:


  • A background in agriculture, meteorology, hydrology, or environmental science, with proficiency in statistical analysis and data processing.
  • Strong programming skills in R (preferable) and/or Python, and experience or interest in weather prediction or climate models.
  • Knowledge of machine learning, AI techniques, and cloud computing for data processing and model deployment.
  • Familiarity with crop models (APSIM, DSSAT, AquaCrop), irrigation systems, and agricultural practices is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, along with experience in literature review, scientific writing, and effective presentation of research findings.

After more than 35 years operating as a successful uranium mine, the Ranger Project is entering its rehabilitation stage. Bechtel will be working alongside ERA and major stakeholder Rio Tinto to restore the land to the status of its surrounding World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park. A collaborative project, this project will be developed in consultation with the Mirarr Traditional Owners and will benefit the Jabiru community.

In this role, you will provide document management support by using ECMS (Enterprise Content Management Systems), distributing, maintaining, and retrieving project records in accordance with company guidelines. You will assist with customer service, questions, issues, updates, quality checks, and project closeout activities. Who You AreYou're a strategic and detail-oriented Systems Engineer: Risk Manager with a strong background in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks within complex systems and projects. Your expertise in risk management, system architecture, and engineering principles allows you to develop robust strategies that minimize potential threats and ensure system resilience. You excel at balancing technical requirements with risk mitigation strategies, ensuring that projects are both secure and successful.

What You'll DoIn the role of Systems Engineer: Risk Manager, your duties will include:
+ Lead risk assessments and develop risk management plans for systems and projects across various domains.
+ Identify potential risks, threats, and vulnerabilities within system designs and operations.
+ Collaborate with engineering teams to create and implement risk mitigation strategies and solutions.
+ Conduct regular risk reviews and ensure compliance with safety, security, and regulatory standards.
+ Use data analysis tools to evaluate system performance and identify areas for improvement.
+ Communicate risk assessments and mitigation plans to stakeholders and senior leadership.
+ Assist in the development of system architectures and designs with a focus on minimizing risks.
+ Support the creation of contingency plans and disaster recovery procedures to address critical system failures.
+ Stay up to date with industry best practices, standards, and regulatory requirements related to risk management.
Requirements:
+ Must be a US or Australian citizen
+ Must Possess an active US Top Secret/SCI w/ Polygraph or AUS PV Clearance.
+ Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Risk Management, or a related field.
+ Must have 7 years of related experience supporting large systems and sub-systems.
+ Experience in Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
+ Proven experience in systems engineering and risk management.
+ Strong understanding of risk analysis tools and techniques.
+ Expertise in system architecture and lifecycle management.
+ Ability to assess and mitigate technical, operational, and financial risks.
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
+ Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
+ Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
This role will be located in Alice Springs. This position is expected to be onsite 100%.

**DESCRIPTION**
In this role you will ensure that knowledge management solutions are seamlessly delivered to enhance the employee experience, drive efficiency and are compliant with global and/or local legislation and company policies. You will take account and respond to the differing needs of our employee population (on-site/off-site/non-wired etc.) and maintain the standardization and efficiencies of knowledge aligned to Cummins knowledge standards. In addition to this you will partner with HR COEs to enable effective and timely feedback loops and knowledge creation.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**

+ Planning, organizing and coordinating HR activities, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, performance management
+ Reviews and manages set KPIs including productivity levels, costs and numbers and advises managers and employees across several HR processes
+ Disseminate HR knowledge to the broader HR team and business
+ Deliver enhanced knowledge management experiences ensuring alignment with global standards while addressing local nuances.
+ Implements and monitors global and regional performance metrics, ensuring quality and continuous improvement
+ Supports and enables ongoing knowledge management learning and growth.
+ Enables seamless end-to-end solutions that are considerate of global and regional needs through effective management (identification, creation, curation, delivery etc) of knowledge.
+ Builds and maintains relationships with key stakeholders using effective communication and collaboration ensuring business needs are met, and the employee experience is enhanced.
+ Delivers on the critical path to stabilizing and managing the Knowledge Management function lifecycle and ensure global utilization is enabled

+ Ensures knowledge management maturity growth and identifies new growth opportunities in knowledge identification, management, and delivery.
+ Manages the knowledge process map through alignment with Knowledge Management stakeholders.
+ Monitors applicable legislative compliance and takes action to ensure all requirements and agreements are met.
+ Ensures knowledge management tools and technologies enable the KM requirements of the organization.
+ Define/create, review and manage operational metrics/KPIs related to area of responsibility
+ Manage and contribute to knowledge taxonomy and strategic plans
+ Leverage and adhere to the global governance matrix around all stages of the knowledge management process.
+ Enables excellence and continuous improvement, setting high standards for the team in delivering Knowledge Management across the region.
+ Oversees the implementation of updates and changes, ensuring they are communicated effectively and enhance employee engagement.
