Role Purpose
The Building Associate will assist engineers, builders, and project managers in the coordination and supervision of construction projects, particularly those involving the repair, remediation, and strengthening of concrete structures. The role ensures compliance with building codes, safety standards, and project specifications, while supporting site operations, liaising with stakeholders, and maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency across all activities.
Duties
● Assist in coordinating and supervising on-site construction activities, including specialist works such as concrete repair, crack injection, and structural strengthening.
● Organise and manage construction resources, including tools, equipment, and materials, to support the timely execution of projects.
● Interpret and apply building plans, engineering drawings, building codes, and technical specifications to ensure accurate implementation of works.
● Monitor and ensure compliance with workplace health and safety requirements and relevant building regulations.
● Prepare and provide reports on site conditions, project progress, and technical issues to engineers, builders, or project managers.

Skills & Qualifications

● Strong practical knowledge of construction methods, materials, and equipment, particularly in remediation and strengthening works.
● Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with supervisors, subcontractors, and project managers.

**Job Description**
AECOM's Buildings + Places team are seeking a Principal Building Civil Engineer, based in Melbourne. In this senior role, you'll lead the design and delivery of civil engineering works for landmark projects across Aviation, Defence, Sports & Public Realm, Commercial, Health, and Education sectors. You'll guide a high-performing team, drive innovation and sustainability, and engage with clients and stakeholders to shape the future of the built environment.
**How you'll make a difference:**
+ Manage the planning, design, and execution of complex civil engineering design delivery including site infrastructure, drainage, earthworks, stormwater management, pavements, and utilities, ensuring technical excellence, constructability, and compliance with Australian Standards.
+ Oversee, guide and mentor a small group of engineers, fostering technical development, providing clear direction, and embedding quality assurance processes across all deliverables.
+ Drive best practice design outcomes by embedding sustainability objectives, applying innovative techniques and digital tools, and ensuring robust safety standards throughout every stage of delivery.
+ Collaborate across disciplines and stakeholders - Work seamlessly with multi-disciplinary teams, authorities and clients, translating complex engineering concepts into clear, actionable outcomes and resolving coordination risks to achieve 'best-for-project' solutions.
+ Support business growth and client engagement - Play a key role in developing proposals, building long-term client relationships, and contributing to strategic initiatives that strengthen our market presence and reputation.

+ Proven technical expertise and experience - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, ideally with 11+ years of experience delivering civil designs for building projects across a variety of sectors. Previous consultancy experience is preferred.
+ Chartered and accredited professional - Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or eligibility, with current Professional Engineer registration and membership of relevant professional bodies.
+ Demonstrated success in managing complex, multidisciplinary civil design projects, leading teams effectively, and ensuring delivery to time, quality, and budget.
+ Advanced digital and technical proficiency - Skilled in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, 12D, and DRAINS, with the ability to produce and review high-quality technical documentation, specifications, and reports.
+ Excellent communicator and collaborator - Clear, confident, and client-focused, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels, build trusted relationships, and foster a collaborative, knowledge-sharing culture.

Our diverse Melbourne-based Building Services Team are currently looking for an experienced Team Lead to manage a group of Principal Level professional, including engineers and digital team. Your role will be split across people management and project delivery, including assisting with the design and delivery of projects across; Healthcare, Education, Aviation, Civil Infrastructure, Defence, Commercial and Arts and Culture projects across Australia.

+ Lead and manage a team of experienced, multidisciplinary building services engineers and digital modellers. Support their technical development and professional growth by providing guidance, mentoring, and performance management while setting clear goals for success.
+ Collaborate with other Team Leads within the group to drive multi-disciplinary project outcomes, ensuring effective strategic planning, resource allocation, and utilization.
+ Leverage your Building Services, Design and Project Management expertise to successfully deliver multi-disciplinary projects, in a role of the Design and Project Manager.
+ Contribute technical insights to project proposals and bids and build strong client relationships across a diverse range of projects.
+ Apply your commercial acumen and analytical skills to interpret complex financial systems and reports, contributing to both the broader operational business and specific project success.

+ Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams, collaborating with engineers from various disciplines as the Project Lead, leveraging your technical expertise and exceptional communication skills.
+ CPEng / RPEQ and/or RBP Accreditation (highly advantageous) with strong stakeholder management skills, and the ability to engage with clients, consultants, and project teams to drive successful project outcomes.
