Our Geotechnical team services projects across various industries and sectors, working collaboratively with local government, residential developers, rail authorities, education, commercial and industrial clients. Due to exceptional success and continued growth in our Geotechnical team we have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Newcastle office.
In this role, you will contribute by providing geotechnical expertise in residential, transport and infrastructure projects for all project stages, from the geotech investigation up to the detail design and construction supervision.
**Day to day tasks would involve:**
+ Plan, coordinate and manage field data acquisition, site investigations, testing and produce calculations, reporting, specifications and drawings to ensure that geotechnical designs provide appropriate solutions.
+ Undertake geotechnical analysis in areas such as slope stability, pavement designs, foundations and retaining walls.
+ Provide quality check and review experience to an appropriate technical standard.
+ Plan, program and coordinate geotechnical project inputs, to deliver the agreed outputs on budget, on time and to agreed quality standards.
+ Prepare proposals and carry out other appropriate internal/external marketing initiatives as required.
**Qualifications**
**To be successful for this role you'll need:**
+ Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering with completion of geotechnical electives and/or major as part of your university studies.
+ Minimum 5 years working experience in consulting field and/or recognised as a senior engineer in your current role.
+ Experience with soil investigation, supervision and geotechnical design.
+ Previous experience with engineering software packages such as gINT, GEOSTUDIO, PLAXIS, ROCSCIENCE, CIRCLY, AutoCAD.

# Project Overview:
After more than 35 years operating as a successful uranium mine, the Ranger Project is entering its rehabilitation stage. Bechtel will be working alongside ERA and major stakeholder Rio Tinto to restore the land to the status of its surrounding World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park. A collaborative project, this project will be developed in consultation with the Mirarr Traditional Owners and will benefit the Jabiru community.

In this role you will conduct field investigations, testing and analysis, and liaise with stakeholders to monitor the success work scope designs. Your primary accountability will include field Geotech engineering activities associated with the tailings surface curst strength build, and subsequent capping activities which includes the installation of geotextiles, waste rock and various decant and monitoring equipment.
# Major Responsibilities:
+ Completion of field testing, inspections, and processing of related construction engineering documentation. Documentation will include various soil test records, construction completion records, as built drawings and non-conformance reports
+ Collecting geotechnical data from sensors and field logs
+ Analysing soil and rock properties (e.g., cohesion, friction angle, moisture content)
+ Interpreting monitoring data to detect trends or early warning signs of failure
+ Using software and tools for slope stability modelling
+ Assessing slope failure risks based on geological and hydrological conditions
+ Preparing technical reports with recommendations for mitigation
+ Communicating findings to project managers, safety teams, and stakeholders
+ Responsible for the activities of assigned construction engineers, such as the application of drawings, specifications, and subcontracts
