About the role

As a Civil Engineer at BYH Builders', you will play a crucial role in the design and construction of major building projects in the Perth metropolitan area. This full-time position will see you collaborating closely with the broader engineering and construction teams to deliver high-quality, sustainable solutions that drive the growth and success of the business.

What you'll be doing

  • Conducting site assessments and feasibility studies to inform the planning and design of new civil engineering project

  • Liaising with relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and standards

  • Providing on-site supervision and technical support during the construction phase

  • Identifying and implementing innovative solutions to optimize project outcomes

  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of the company's engineering practices and procedures

  • Scheduling jobs while managing subcontractors to deliver job on time.

  • Coordinating with trades to get work done on time keeping in mind the Australian sand BYH standards.

What we're looking for

  • A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field

  • Chartered status with Engineers Australia or eligibility for chartered membership

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar civil engineering role, preferably within the construction industry

  • Strong technical skills in areas such as residential building and sub division.

  • Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities

  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Proficiency in the use of industry-standard design and analysis software

Key Responsibilities:
+ Undertake planning and detailed roads design, including reporting and recommendations.
+ Undertake review and/or verification of roads designs undertaken by others.
+ Demonstrate a strong understanding of client needs and drivers.
+ Proactively provide direction, mentoring and support to bid teams and project staff
+ Supervise, mentor and develop team members.
+ Review deliverables to ensure compliance with technical and quality assurance standards.
+ Develop and maintain client relationships and industry knowledge and maximise business development opportunities.
+ Prepare technically sound, well written and easily understood proposals and reports.
Skills & Experience Required:
+ Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
+ Familiarity with Australian Standards and industry guidelines for roads and civil infrastructure.
+ Currently hold chartership to Engineers Australia.
+ Ability to prepare and check design calculations (including self-checking) using either manual methods or with the aid of computer applications such as 12d, OpenRoads and the Microsoft Office suite.
+ Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to contribute to innovative solutions for complex challenges.
+ Competence in delivering work according to budget, schedule and quality requirements.
+ A collaborative mindset, with experience working in project teams within a consulting environment.

Our Transport Team are looking for an experienced Civil Engineer based in Rockhampton. This opportunity presents the chance for an experienced Civil Engineer to work on a wide variety of regionally significant transport and general civil planning and design projects, establishing and building existing client relationships, and leading people. **What will a day in this role look like:**
+ Lead general civil work including road design and urban precinct planning projects for both government and private sector clientele.
+ Act as Project Manager / Technical Lead on a range of projects, including partaking in business development practices, proposal writing, bidding for civil infrastructure projects.
+ Work closely with a range of engineers across Australia, delivering key transport design services on a variety of transport infrastructure projects.
+ Partake in Team Leader responsibilities across the local Transport Business including managing, training and mentoring junior team members to aid their professional development, financial reporting on projects.
+ Actively partake in business and strategic planning activities for the team, with the wider business effectively collaborating with a range of internal stakeholders.

Job Description

Our Transport Team are looking for an experienced Civil Engineer based in Rockhampton. This opportunity presents the chance for an experienced Civil Engineer to work on a wide variety of regionally significant transport and general civil planning and design projects, establishing and building existing client relationships, and leading people. We are looking to speak with Engineers from Principal to Associate Director level with significant experience in Transport Infrastructure.

Please note: Relocation is on offer for the right candidate.

Working as part of a high performing, close-knit regional team that consists of over 30 engineers, scientists and designers, you will also have the opportunity to collaborate with industry renowned peers nationally across our organisation to create whole-of-business success.

What will a day in this role look like:
Lead general civil work including road design and urban precinct planning projects for both government and private sector clientele. Act as Project Manager / Technical Lead on a range of projects, including partaking in business development practices, proposal writing, bidding for civil infrastructure projects. Work closely with a range of engineers across Australia, delivering key transport design services on a variety of transport infrastructure projects. Partake in Team Leader responsibilities across the local Transport Business including managing, training and mentoring junior team members to aid their professional development, financial reporting on projects. Actively partake in business and strategic planning activities for the team, with the wider business effectively collaborating with a range of internal stakeholders.
Qualifications

What are we looking for from you?
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with RPEQ and ideally 12+ years experience for a consultancy, local Council or State Government Department A future leader with an interest in succession and long-term growth within a global organisation. Extensive design and/or project management experience with State Government or local council civil infrastructure and transport projects Proven knowledge of Australian Standards and a track record of applying your technical knowledge when delivering projects. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills when dealing with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Ability to work collaboratively at both an internal and external, client-facing level, developing new client relationships and maintaining existing networks within the business.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

This role will give you the opportunity to:

Undertake hydraulic, hydrology and water balance modelling with guidance from senior and principal engineers. Support the development of Consequence Category assessments including dam break modelling. Assist in a range of surface water management studies and investigations from concept through to detailed design. Work with the CAD team to develop project documentation. Technical report writing and proposal preparation. Participate in National and International Conferences.

Education and Licensure

Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering, or a related field of study. (required) Advanced degree in a related field of study. (preferred but not essential) Eligible for membership with Engineers Australia, with the ability to obtain RPEQ/NER once adequately qualified. (required)

Skills, Experience And Qualifications

Experience in hydrologic and hydraulic modelling (e.g. TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, RORB, WBNM, Flow-2D), or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (required) Competent in the use of GIS. (required) Familiarity with ARR guidelines. (required) Strong written and verbal communication skills. (required)

Highly Regarded Skills & Experience

Additional hydrologic and hydraulic modelling packages Familiarity with dam safety guidelines including ANCOLD, GISTM, CDA and DES Water balance studies Dam break and consequence assessment studies Spillway design Stormwater management plans and/or erosion and sediment control Civil or tailings engineering.
