At Uniting’s Medically Supervised Injecting Centre (MSIC), we stand at the forefront of harm reduction and compassionate care. For over two decades, MSIC has been a safe, non-judgemental service for people who inject drugs – reducing overdose deaths, connecting people with health and social support, and working alongside the local community.
We are seeking a Health Education Team Manager to lead and inspire our dedicated team of Health Education Officers (HEOs). - Foster a workplace culture that is inclusive, respectful, and grounded in harm reduction principles.
- Work closely with the MSIC Senior Leadership Team to translate strategy into action – including planning, budgeting, reporting and continuous improvement.
- Provide leadership at the frontline by modelling best-practice responses to consumer presentations, including drug overdose management in collaboration with the clinical team.
- Deliver training and education in harm reduction practice, supporting capability-building across MSIC.
- Oversee staffing within allocated budgets and in accordance with relevant industrial agreements and Uniting policies.
- Lead health promotion and project initiatives such as the MSIC Art Project, and strengthen engagement with First Nations peoples in service design and delivery.
- Contribute to policy development, service evaluation, report writing, grant applications, and published articles.
- Build effective internal and external stakeholder relationships that enhance outcomes for MSIC consumers and the community.
About you
We are looking for a collaborative, compassionate, and confident leader who brings:
- Proven experience leading teams in health, community services, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of harm reduction approaches and the issues impacting people who inject drugs.
- Demonstrated ability to manage staffing, budgets, WH&S, and compliance in a complex service environment.
- Experience in responding to and managing behaviour escalations and/or assisting with medical emergencies, such as overdose
- Excellent communication, training, and facilitation skills, with the ability to inspire and empower staff.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to advocate for positive outcomes for vulnerable communities.
You are encouraged to contact MSIC directly on and arrange a visit before you apply. Please ask for Miranda St Hill or Sarah Roffey.
